Crackdown on teachers giving tuition

The Star

SEVERAL schoolteachers who conduct private tuition in Butterworth and Sungai Petani have received stern warnings from the Penang and Kedah education departments, Sin Chew Daily reported.

Inland Revenue Board officers have also started investigating these teachers on their additional income derived from tuition.

The report said that the teachers had not sought permission from the education department for fear of being taxed for their tuition earnings. Most operated from home and tuition centres.

The authorities, comprising education and tax officers started their crackdown last week.
