VSS for civil servants: Details to be worked out

The Star

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Human Resource Ministry will hold a discussion with the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Sidek Hassan to work out the details of the proposal on voluntary separation scheme (VSS) for problematic and under-performing civil servants.

Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn said there is basis for the Government to mull over the VSS.

“Tan Sri (Sidek Hassan) has his own rationale for proposing VSS for civil servants and we will hold an in-depth discussion with him,'' he told reporters after the groundbreaking ceremony for the RM27mil Socso building in Kuala Terengganu today.

However, Dr Fong stressed that any decision on the implementation of VSS for civil servants would not come under the jurisdiction of his ministry. “VSS practised by private sectors has been successful in its objective but in the case of civil servants, it would be up to the Public Services Department's recommendation,'' he added.
