Selangor to revamp all local authorities
The Star SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will restructure all its local authorities and create new municipalities to meet rapid population growth and improve services. ”We find that the current structure of the local authorities based on the system in the 1970s is outdated and we need to implement changes in order to the serve the people better,” Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo told reporters after launching the Selangor PPP Convention here Thursday. Among the changes was the creation of an open system in which residents’ problems could be attended to by neighbouring municipalities. Dr Khir also announced that the Federal Government had approved the construction of a third bridge over the Klang River in Klang town. He said there was no problem in a PPP candidate contesting in the general election. In his speech, PPP president Datuk M. Kayveas said the party would like to contest the Kota Alam Shah state seat that was promised to the party during the last general election.
