VSS will get rid of deadwood in civil service

The Star

THE Government should be applauded for offering a Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) to staff who slack at work as a way to get rid of deadwood in government service. (The Star, Dec 13).

The VSS and the sack are norms in the private sector for mediocre staff whose quality of work is below expectations.

Government servants cannot have their cake and eat it too. Those who work in the civil service must be dedicated to their work and even walk the extra mile to give quality service to the public.

We need a civil service beyond reproach and whose members work without fear and favour for better delivery systems.

HAMDAN IBRAHIM,

Kuala Lumpur.
