Scrap federal department, urges deputy CM

The Star

KOTA KINABALU: The Federal Development Department (FDD) in Sabah should be scrapped to avoid duplications in implementing development projects in the state, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin.

“Sabah has a ministerial system with specific ministries and their own agencies. Hence, allocations can be channelled to the state government via the Chief Minister’s Department to be disbursed to the various ministries to finance projects.

“Since Sabah is no longer under Opposition rule, it’s appropriate that the responsibility be handed to the state government for all projects to be carried out hassle-free,” he told reporters at the Putatan and Penampang district level Maulidur Rasul celebrations yesterday.

The department was set up when Sabah was governed by Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBs) which was an Opposition party then. – Bernama
