Civil servants in Perlis 'will not meddle in politics'

KANGAR: Civil servants in Perlis are focused on carrying out development work and will not interfere with political developments, State Secretary Datuk Ismail Othman said yesterday.

"We unanimously acknowledge that the current leadership is our leadership. The question of leadership change is not our concern because we are focused on the state's development," he told a press conference after a state executive council meeting here on Wednesday.

Ismail has been meeting with secretaries-general and directors-general of government bodies, as well as state-level government bodies to explain the political situation in Perlis.

His comments came after Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Radzi Sheikh Ahmad said Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim should go to ensure the stability of the state Umno.

Radzi, who is the Umno secretary-general had criticised Shahidan's leadership, claiming that the state Umno was in disarray.
