Armed forces divers may get allowance

LUMUT: The armed forces will look into giving special allowances for its divers, said its chief Jen Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Zainal.

“We have already come up with a proposal for allowances for those involved in high-risk jobs in the forces, like the air wing unit and so on,” he told reporters after visiting the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) base here yesterday.

Of the suggestions made, he said, the Defence Ministry had already approved allowances for pilots, paratroopers and commandos.

Jen Abdul Aziz also said a tender had already been put up for the purchase of the FeiNu-6, a manned portable air-defence missile system, from China.

He said that long-term developments were under way to better equip the armed forces.

Amongst these was the possibility of acquiring a frigate for the sole purpose of training RMN personnel and for the country to have its own Global Hawk Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for all armed forces units
