Abu Bakar to take over as new Mindef sec-gen

KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Ministry deputy secretary-general (development) Datuk Abu Bakar Abdullah will take over as the ministry's secretary-general from Tuesday.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Sidek Hassan said in a statement yesterday that Abu Bakar would replace Datuk Ahmad Latffi Hashim whose service contract ends on Monday.

Abu Bakar, 52, who has wide experience in economic management and defence policies, joined the Administrative and Diplomatic Service on Sept 19, 1977.

He was appointed deputy secretary-general (development) of the ministry on July 1 last year.

Sidek also announced that Ismail Adam, 53, the divisional secretary in the ministry's procurement division would fill the post vacated by Abu Bakar, also effective Tuesday,

Ismail's post will be taken by Mohd Shahbudin Ibrahim, 51, the division secretary in the ministry's internal audit and general investigation division.

Sidek also announced the appointment of Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid, 54, as the director of the organisational development division in the Public Service Department effective July 16.

Mhd Najri Abdul Hamid, 54, division secretary in the Defence Ministry's Finance and accounts division, will take over from Abdul Halim.

Sidek said Ab Rahim Md Noor, 50, has been appointed the director of the ISO 9000 Unit in the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) in the Prime Minister's Department.

He takes over from Mohamad Zabidi Zainal who was appointed deputy secretary-general (finance) of the Health Ministry on July 1. – Bernama
