Rela aims to restore image with makeover

NST

IPOH: Rela wants to rebrand itself in the wake of adverse publicity which has cast it in a bad light.

A four-day brainstorming session from Tuesday in Shah Alam is expected to come up with a blueprint for a make-over for the organisation.

On the cards are efforts to help Rela members understand the law better, a weakness believed to be behind recent cases of bad press for the organisation.

Also being planned are a Rela Act to protect members, more training centres and programmes, better logistics, more allocations and recruitment of new members and officers.

Home Affairs Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Paduka Abdul Rahman Ibrahim said this was the first step towards improving the organisation’s image.
Proposals will be submitted to Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad before a working paper is presented to the cabinet.

On the government allocation for Rela, Abdul Rahman said the organisation received RM9 million on Tuesday to pay allowances to volunteers and Mukim chief Rela officers.
