Civil servants who kick drug habit may keep their jobs

The Star

THE Government plans to amend the Public Service Department regulations to enable civil servants who have kicked their drug habit to be reinstated, said Malaysia Nanban.

Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Johari Baharum said under the current rules, civil servants would be sacked if they were found to be addicts.

He said most of the addicts returned to their habit because society shunned them, thus making it difficult to rehabilitate them.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who is Internal Security Minister, accepted the proposals at a meeting recently.
