Cabinet's help sought in speeding up Rela allowance

The cabinet will be requested to speed up the payment of operations allowance to members of Ikatan Relawan Rakyat (Rela) to improve the performance of the agency.

Its minister Datuk Seri Radzi Shekh Ahmad said payment of the allowance of RM4 an hour for ordinary members and RM5.80 an hour for Rela heads approved by the government in March should be speeded up.

Radzi said he was happy with the commitment shown by the 100,000 Rela members so far.

He advised residents of new housing estates to form Rela units to ensure security in their areas.

Meanwhile, Rela, with the co-operation of the police and Immigration officers detained 35 illegal immigrants from Indonesia, India and Thailand in an operation in and around here from 11pm yesterday to 2.30am today.
They were sent to the Pekan Nenas Detention Centre in Pontian.
